Up one level
The CIMNE was one of the first independent research and development bodies created by the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) and was founded in 1987 under the auspices of UNESCO. Since its creation, the CIMNE has worked to promote training, research and technology transfer initiatives in the international field of numerical methods and applications in engineering.
The CIMNE has taken part in more than 600 research and development projects in a number of fields, including civil, aeronautical, naval and telecommunications engineering and production processes. CIMNE projects have received funding from the European Union, the Spanish Ministry of Industry, the CIDEM, the CIRIT, the CICYT and from companies based in Spain and abroad.

In addition, the CIMNE has given rise to the following spin-off companies:
  • Compass Ingeniería y Sistemas SA, which specialises in the development of structural calculation software (based on finite elements) for civil, naval and aerospace engineering.
  • Structuralia, a company created to develop initiatives in the fields of online training and consulting in civil engineering and construction.
  • Ingenia, a financial group formed by 14 companies and the CIMNE. It uses the combined resources of the member companies to carry out large-scale projects in the aerospace sector and is currently based in the PMT.
