The Institute of Geomatics

The Institute of Geomatics is a public consortium that was recently set up by the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and the Technical University of Catalonia.

Geomatics is a multidisciplinary group of sciences and technologies concerned with the study, acquisition, storage, organisation, analysis, dissemination, administration and application of georeferenced information. Geomatics covers cartography, photogrammetry and remote sensing, topography and industrial metrology, geographical information systems and navigation. Although "geomatics" is a fairly recent term, some of its foundations and principal technologies come from classical scientific fields. These have been integrated into innovative new disciplines such as remote control, information technologies, positioning and communication systems.

The Institute of Geomatics aims to develop geomatics through applied investigation for the general benefit of society.
