  • The Department of Agricultural Engineering and Biotechnology (DEAB), in collaboration with the ESAB, offers the doctoral programme in "Agribusiness Biotechnology and Sustainability".

Objectives of the teaching programme:
  • To train high quality technical agricultural engineers capable of successfully tackling the future challenges for companies in this sector and ensure continuous innovation. In order to complement their training and offer contacts with the business world, students carry out a compulsory work placement and have the opportunity to consult a Careers Advice Service.
  • To consolidate its role as a nucleus for research and teaching excellence with excellent prospects in key areas such as the optimisation of agri-food companies, biotechnology, the environment, agricultural economics and landscaping.
  • To become a point of contact with the surrounding area through an agreement with the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park in order to increase the potential of research and teaching activities.
Career prospects
The tuition offered provides training in sciences and engineering and prepares graduates for working in the type of multidisciplinary teams that are present in most current workgroups in public administration (environment, nature reserves, etc.) or private companies (agriculture and food, environment, pharmaceuticals, etc.). The agri-foods industry is a key sector in the Catalan economy and accounts for 17% of the GDP, which places it ahead of the chemical and transport material industries. The Catalan agri-food industry employs 77,300 people and is the national leader in its sector.
